Song of the Sea

Irish animation, Song Of The Sea, tells the story of Ben and his little sister Saoirse – the last Seal-child – who embark on a fantastic journey across a fading world of ancient legend and magic in an attempt to return to their home by the sea. The film takes inspiration from the mythological Selkies of Irish folklore, who live as seals in the sea but become humans on land.

While the film continues to build its reputation as the best Irish animation ever, few people who see it will realise how much work actually goes into making a feature of this length.
The Butler Gallery in Kilkenny currently has an exhibition based on the film, with original storyboards and character drawings, and opportunities to get hands-on with your own animations.
